Welcome
Nutir-Net Canada is a collaborative initiative among regional and national industry, trade and research organizations and government bodies dedicated to advancing the development of the functional food and natural health products sector in Canada. This emerging sector uses agricultural, forestry and fishery products to develop value-added, knowledge-based products and ingredients, providing consumers with foods and natural health products with health and wellness benefits.
Nutri-Net Canada is funded by Agriculture & Agri Food Canada under the Science and Innovation Broker Program http://www.agr.gc.ca/. Stakeholder in kind contributions have more than doubled the value of the initiative.
The goals of the Nutri-Net Canada project are to:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of this knowledge-based, value-added sector within Canada and abroad
- Create a Canadian functional food/natural health product (FF/NHP) industry strategy, which includes a communications strategy and
- Provide an implementation plan to foster a strong industry dedicated to improving the nutrition, health and well-being of Canadians.
To achieve these goals, Nutri-Net Canada is overseeing and coordinating a suite of studies, workshops and conferences that will be completed by March 31, 2008. The outputs of these activities will feed into the development of the industry strategy. The latter will define a clear vision; outline short, medium and long-term goals; and include implementation and communication strategies. This work will include initiatives that will increase participation of the traditional food industry and the health community – key influencers in consumer interest in these products.
The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) is the legal representative of Nutri-Net Canada, on behalf of the Nutri-Net Canada Steering Committee (NNC SC), and is responsible for the administration and delivery of the activities and objectives through a contribution agreement signed with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
